About Dr. Aniruddha Maiti
Dr. Aniruddha Maiti is a senior vitreo-retinal surgeon with more than 18 years in ophthalmology. Before joining Spectra he was Head of the Retina Department and Senior Consultant in Vitreo-Retina at Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Centre, Kolkata (2008–2021). Since 2008 he has performed more than 10,000 vitreo-retinal operations, with a focus on macular surgery, complex retinal detachment and advanced diabetic eye disease.
The American Society of Retina Specialists gave him its Honor Award (2018) and Senior Honor Award (2019). His other awards include the AIOS Young Researcher Award (2010) and the IJO Gold Award for the best publication in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology (2012). He holds MRCS (Edinburgh) in Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
He helped set up the first ocular electrophysiology centre in Eastern India, has trained more than ten long-term vitreo-retina fellows, and has published on anti-VEGF therapy in macular degeneration (the BRAILLE and ASSET studies), dexamethasone implants in diabetic macular oedema (VITDEX), and diabetic vitrectomy.
