What is it?
OCT works like an ultrasound but uses light. It produces cross-section pictures of the retina with a resolution of a few microns, so swelling, fluid, holes and membranes that cannot be seen on examination become obvious.
It is the key test for macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, macular holes, membranes and CSR, and it is repeated before most injections to decide whether another one is needed. OCT of the optic nerve is also used in glaucoma.
