What is it?
OCT-A uses repeated OCT scans to detect moving blood cells and builds a map of the vessels layer by layer.
It is quick and safe, but sees a smaller area than FFA and does not show leakage, so both tests have a place.
When it is used
- Wet AMD and CNVM
- Diabetic retinopathy (closed areas, new vessels)
- Vein occlusion
- Follow-up without repeated dye tests
Options
OCT-A
No injection, seconds per eye.
FFA
Dye test; wider view and shows leakage.
How the test is done
- Scan
Chin on the machine, look at a light for a few seconds.
