What is it?
A small clot or cholesterol plaque, usually from the neck arteries or heart, lodges in the retinal artery. The same process causes strokes, so people with an eye stroke have a high risk of a brain stroke in the following weeks.
Vision recovery is often limited, but urgent assessment protects the other eye and the brain.
