What is it?
Most detachments start as a tear when the vitreous jelly pulls away from the retina. Fluid passes through the tear and lifts the retina off.
Caught at the tear stage, a ₹3,000 laser can prevent detachment. Once the retina lifts, surgery is needed, ideally before the centre (macula) comes off.
